Today, innovations in land surveying are beginning to play a major role in providing more accurate and detailed information to engineers and clients. As drone technology has advanced in recent years, the cost of aerial photogrammetry has been reduced to a fraction of what is has been in the past, offering a unique opportunity in the field of land surveying.
After more than one year of training and testing, in compliance with new FAA regulations part 107, Fleming Engineering has introduced two new aircraft into their fleet. These drones are designed to provide our clients with new, state of the art accuracy and precision in land surveying and project management.
When favorable field and environmental conditions present themselves, aerial photogrammetry provides very accurate information acquired by FAA certified pilots and drones that are fully insured. The process of using an unmanned aircraft in conjunction with a field crew on the ground can be much more efficient and provide clients with a quicker turn around.
Prior to the flight, the pilot will map the area to be surveyed and program this data into the drone’s software. Working with a field crew to ensure safety and accuracy, the pilot may conduct multiple flights over the site to collect all the necessary data. Topographical contours of elevation, precise spatial data and volumetric surveys are just a few measurements that can be extrapolated from the flight data. The images captured by the drone will then be imported to be manipulated by our highly qualified civil engineers and AutoCAD technicians to ensure the client will receive the most detailed and accurate information for their project.
