When a project may be impacted by the existence of utilities serving the project and surrounding properties, Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) can become an important component in design and construction activities. FEI offers the capability to perform underground utility locations and is able to locate all types of underground utilities ranging from natural gas lines, electrical services, water services, communications and fiber optics, as well as sewer and drain lines, precisely and accurately.
Fleming Engineering employs the four levels of quality to determine the scope of work required. These levels build upon one another to create a complete picture of the subsurface terrain.
Services can be performed in phases or all at once. A drawing of utility locations, if provided in the scope of work, will designate to what quality level each utility line is shown.
Quality Level D: The process of gathering data - Any digital or paper records, site inspection, internet search or personal account of the site. A drawing is then complied from the collected data.
Quality Level C: Surveying the visible utility features. - Added to Level D information to improve the underground picture.
Quality Level B: Designating the underground utilities - Usually performed using “high-tech” electronic equipment, such as handheld locators and ground penetrating radar.
Quality Level A: Physically locating the utility - Through nondestructive exposure using a “soft dig” vacuum or hand tools, this final technique provides precise information of the underground utility lines.
